A tarot deck always has the same 78 cards in the same Major and Minor Arcana; an oracle deck can have any number of cards, on any theme the creator chooses — angels, animals, moons, affirmations — and each card usually carries its own printed message or keyword.
That makes oracle decks more freeform and often more beginner-friendly, since the meaning is spelled out on the card rather than learned. Tarot offers depth and a shared system; oracle cards offer flexibility and directness. Many people use both. As with tarot, they’re best understood as a tool for reflection rather than fortune-telling — their usefulness comes from the questions they prompt, not from predicting what will happen.
