Divination
Definition
The practice of seeking insight or guidance through a structured system of symbols — such as tarot, astrology, or the I Ching — which, read reflectively, works as a mirror for the present rather than a prediction of a fixed future.
Divination is the practice of seeking insight or guidance through a structured system of symbols — tarot, astrology, numerology, the I Ching, dream interpretation. Historically it’s carried connotations of predicting the future, but that’s only one way to hold it.
The more defensible and, we’d argue, more useful framing is reflective divination: the symbols work as a mirror for your present situation, not a forecast of a fixed fate. On that reading, the value isn’t in being told what will happen — it’s in seeing your own circumstances more clearly and reflecting on them, with the Major Arcana or a birth chart as the prompt.
